About KD avia

KD avia is a Russian registered airline based at Kaliningrad - Khrabrovo Airport, where it also operates its own air terminal.

The airline began operations in 1949 as the 64th Air Squadron of the Civil Aviation and from 1978 was reorganised as a state owned enterprise and renamed Kaliningrad Avia, and was operating Tupolev 134 aircraft.

By 1990 KD Kaliningrad avia served over 30 destinations, domestically and internationally, on its Tuploev 134 and 154 aircraft.

In 2002 the state owned enterprise was privatised. From 2005 the airline received their first western aircraft and by the end of 2005 KD avia withdrew the last of their Russian aircraft. In this year the airline also changed its name to KD avia.

Kaliningrads separation from Russia has increased the requirement for direct air transport between Kaliningrad and Russia due to the fact that land travel between the two requires expensive and time consuming visa clearance.

This year KD avia will commence operations in the new transit passenger terminal at Khrabrovo Airport. As well as beginning the operation of a hub and spoke network centred in Kaliningrad, which will provide access to Europe for Russian citizens and provide access to Europe and Russia for Kaliningrad citizens.
